Woman Health TechnologyI’m proud to make known an interesting initiative of a friend, Antonio Portuesi, that has put his idea into practice. Now he is CEO at Woman Health Technology Italia S.r.l. (WHT) a startup company focused on Woman’s Health.

Below an interesting interview that explains the why of his idea and how he achieved his goal. A mix of will, strenght, courage, that can lead people to great results.

1. Who came up with the idea and how? (is the product an innovation, an
improvement or a combination of existing products?)

The product idea generated from my personal observation during a clinical session
regarding Fetal Monitoring. It’s a step-forward innovation and unique in its kind. Later,
I converted this idea into practicability and established a start-up company named as
Woman Health technology – WHT, with the mission and vision to improve Woman
Health Status and Well-being.

2. When do you expect to have a product for the market? And how do you
expect to sell the first product?

WHT plans to launch its innovative product are still under wraps; it will be commercial
for market not later by next year. As of now, we are into a technology transfer
process; the final product will be sold to the distributor which leads to entry in the mass
market accordingly.

3. How did you fund the company so far? Have you ever struggled to find
capital and why?

Initially funds were raised from my own personal contribution, in the later stage WHT
got the Government grant; in order to shape up the idea into real product. Lastly,
other investors and collaborators joined hands with us to take the Fetal Monitoring
project to the next level.

4. How do you plan to finance your business in the future?

WHT financial model is based on free cash flows. The same model is applicable to
other technology transfer processes of WHT. Feasibility capital and seed capital are
the preferred way to raise financial needs.

5. What criteria did you use to choose the team members? Do they hold a
share of the equity?

I firmly believe that great ideas need great minds. For this reason, I picked the best of
best people as my team; they not only strengthened my arms but also took my mission
and vision way ahead of times. I had chosen people by looking straight on their eyes,
and asked them if they would like to be a part of something gigantic, and ready to
handle a new big thing regarding technologies applied to woman’s health.

6. How do you see your future role in the firm?

I am involved from idea generation to product development. So, my role is not limited
to one department or area of expertise. My responsibilities will grow more, as WHT
excels. Also, I think people need a long-lasting dream to follow, under WHT, we have
plenty of dreams and I will make sure make sure, they will turn into reality.

7. What challenges did you have to overcome in the past? How did you settle
disputes due to different views?

The biggest challenge was to find the right people for the right job and assemble such
a team which helps me perusing my goals. I believe if you chase excellence, success
will chase you. Later monetary and material benefits come along the way. So, the
hardest task is to have people on board which has clear vision and who deliver by
following my mission. Creativity differences and different points of views are part and
parcel of any company. In WHT, we respect and welcome ideas from any source and
as a conflict resolution; we merge the point of differences in a new stronger view.

8. In the past has the company been forced to change direction? And which
were the consequences for the organisation?

My team members never forced me to change directions. In past a similar situation
popped up, I involved and tried listening to them; in order to know in which direction
they have been heading towards. I discovered that they were following the same
direction but with a different route or different perspective. The consequences for
WHT are quite impressive, the overall motivation boosted up in a flash, though at
times, it’s hard to maintain it steady.

9. If you could change one thing what would that be?

If you want to change something, change yourself. So, am changing my way of thinking
according to the market needs. I think WHT is a good opportunity that will turn in a
very good cash cow. Maybe we’re not in the best place to start over a start-up from
scratch…
